The number of people diagnosed with Parkinson’s is increasing while the resources set aside for neurological consultations remain static. Added to this, the Covid restrictions on in-person clinic appointments mean that a new way of working needs to be developed.
The University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust Parkinson’s team has, with the help of people affected by Parkinson’s, developed a digital service for a proportion of their patients. It includes training, resources to use whilst self-managing Parkinson’s, the safety net of remote monitoring at intervals, and a contact number for advice.
Emma Edwards, who is a Parkinson’s Nurse in the Plymouth area and a member of the development team, will talk about the impact of the Pathway on the Trust’s Parkinson’s medical staff.
Emma King, a Research Assistant, will talk about how the service has been received by people with Parkinson’s and their care-partners.
The event will include a Q & A Session and will be recorded. Please read an introduction to the Home Based Care Pathway.
